# A move and a clearance are not the same thing

It happens often on the phone: "I need a move". Then we talk for two minutes and it turns out what's actually needed is a clearance, or both together. It's not about words: they're different jobs, with different times and different prices.

The move: the stuff stays yours

In a move, objects leave one place and arrive at another, and they have to arrive intact. That changes the whole way of working.

You need to pack, protect the corners, dismantle the wardrobe and reassemble it on the other side, keep the screws together, load in an order that survives the trip. The time goes more into protecting than into transporting.

The price depends on volume, distance, floors and how much dismantling is needed. A three-room flat within Foggia is done in half a day. The same three-room flat to take to Manfredonia or Lucera is another day and another bill.

The clearance: the stuff doesn't come back

In a clearance, objects go out and don't come back in anywhere. You don't need to protect them, you need to get them out fast and take them where they have to go.

Here the work is physical and logistical: how many trips, how many floors, what type of material. And there's an item that doesn't exist in a move — disposal: furniture, mattresses, fridges and televisions each have a tipping fee that's not set by whoever clears.

That's why a clearance isn't priced by square metres but by volume and by type of material. And it's also why things still in good shape can lower the quote: if it gets resold, it doesn't get disposed of.

When you need both

The most common case in the Capitanata (the Foggia province) is this: you're moving, but not everything goes to the new house. The living room yes, the cellar full of twenty years of things no.

In that case it pays to do it in a single run, with the same team and the same van. We mark what goes and what leaves, load first what goes to the new house, then come back and empty the rest. Two trips instead of four.

The other recurring case is the summer house. On the Gargano, between Vieste, Peschici, Rodi Garganico and Mattinata, it happens that we bring furniture on the way out and empty on the way back, at the end of the season. That's also a mixed job, and it should be said in advance because it changes the vehicle and the time.

What to say when you call

You just need to answer two questions. First: does this stuff have to arrive intact at a specific place, or does it just need to leave the house? Second: is there anything you want to keep?
